The client

Fonic is a boutique audio post-production studio, established in 2004 and based at Hackney City Farm in East London. The team handles sound for animation, commercials, television, film and audiobooks, including Foley for Audible’s Harry Potter: The Full-Cast Audio Editions. They needed a website that felt as crafted as their sound work and put their projects and showreels front and centre.

What I did

I built a custom WordPress theme from the supplied designs, turning them into a responsive site that the Fonic team runs themselves.

  • Sound first. The homepage opens on a full-screen animated ident, played as a video background, with a “Click to listen” toggle so visitors can turn the sound on. For a studio whose work has to be heard, it makes the point before anyone reads a word.
  • Built around the work. Projects get full-bleed headers, the homepage has a “Latest news & projects” carousel (Flickity), and a dedicated Showreels section uses a custom video player (Plyr).
  • Easy for the team to run. Projects, news, press releases, downloadable assets and showreels each have their own section, so the team can publish new work and announcements without a developer.
  • Responsive. The video-led, image-heavy layouts adapt from large screens down to mobile, where the navigation collapses into a menu.

Result

More than five years after launch the site is still Fonic’s front door, and the team keeps it busy with new projects and news.

Chris turned the designs into a website that feels as considered as our sound work. The animated ident sets the tone the moment the homepage loads, and he was easy to work with, quick to respond and cared about the details.
